Concealers for Darker skin

Let's compare!

Now, If your like me, Concealers are something you just can't do without!

They 'Conceal' all your blemishes and dark spots and contribute to giving you that even skin tone, so with that being said, we have to make sure we are using the right kind of product as it is on our skin ALL day. The last thing you want is cakey-looking-flakey-smudge-prone concealer that only does it's job for the first hour you apply it anyway! So where do we start?

Your concealer should be the same colour as your skin tone. Sounds basic, but believe me so many go so wrong. I find for my skin it's better for me to use a nice creamy base rather than the powder or mineral based concealer only because my skin leans more toward the dry side. So the first thing you need to do is assess what type of skin you have? Oily, combination or Dry?

I would recommend dry skin to use a nice cream base, combination skin can use what ever they tend to prefer, and oily skin you want to stay away from anything too creamy, a nice powder or mineral based concealer would be for you so that you don't find yourself blotting excessively throughout the day.

I've gone through tons of different conealers and found only the creamy base works for my type of skin because when using powder on dry skin it tends to look cakey or ashy, and where you may have some flakiness to the skin the powder will pick up on that straight away. Dryer skin needs moisture and protection, so finding a concealer with a shea butter base would be ideal. That way you are getting rich full coverage and caring for your skin at the same time!

Currently using: Bobbi Brown Concealer

A recent purchase of mine! I also use the corrector under my eye to lift any trace of dark circles and then I layer on the concealer under my eye and on any dark marks (will blog this soon!) It covers amazingly and doesn't sit on the face it blends out perfectly and doesn't feel like you're wearing anything on the skin.
There is shea butter in the formula so it also helps to moisturise the skin throughout the day. The finished look favours how a make up artist would leave you looking! I think this is because Bobbi Brown actually caters to our darker skin tones, providing the right kind of under tones etc. This is why I was recommended to use them in the first place.

Motives Mavens

Motives have a line called 'Motives Mavens Sculpt Series' Which is meant for contouring and highlighting, all the product have a rich creamy base which also have shea butter in them.

I found that using the  'Fire' version (For warmer skin tones) they have a pot in there that worked amazing to cover and conceal any blemishes and dark marks. I really recommend this product, and what's even better is that it's multipurpose, you won't need to buy an extra contouring kit because it comes with it!

In the past I've tried the MAC NC45 Concealer Pot..

I love this concealer, Works really well to cover any dark marks, there isn't any 'good stuff' in the base however, but it does provide great coverage and applies smoothly. The only thing I don't really like is the design of it, as it's in a pot alot of the product runs out from the middle and leaves you digging around the parameter of it..(just a personal annoyance) The base of their colour is quite different compared to Bobbi Brown in my experience, I was told this is down to the fact that MAC although they provide shades for darker tones, It was never designed to cater for our darker skin colour.

Liquid concealer by MAC NC45

I found with this, I would just use it under my eye, It wasn't rich enough to really cover my scars or blemishes and I also found it didn't last very long throughout the day. Also due to the colour of it (although NC45) It left me looking a little grey on those areas so I used it strictly for under the eye. Would be more useful for the combination skin type.

Sleek concealer stick in 'Terracotta' (Discontinued)

Aww this brings back some memories of when I first started using make up. Anyway, although this is discontinued I've included it in my list because Sleek is an excellent product to use on darker skin tones, they have an array of different tones that they cater for which I love about them, and whether it be lipstick or eyeshadow they are always very pigmented. Check out their palettes they have some super fun colours!

Thank you for the request! I hope this helped, I know you guys usually leave me comments on my tumblr and that's fine, but as this blog is beauty related it would be great if you could start to leave your requests and comments on here!

God Bless
